Shiny

I’m going to start collecting some of my writings that relate self care to Firefly here.

The other day we re-watched Serenity and I finally understood why Mal’s speech about Love makes sense:

Love. You can learn all the math in the ‘verse… but you take a boat in the air that you don’t love… she’ll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she ought to fall down… tells you she’s hurting before she keels. Makes her a home.

I originally saw the movie and went back to take in the series, expecting to see this quote again, but I never did see it.  But this on this rewatch I realized it ties back to what the Operative says in the opening sequence:

“Madness?… it’s love, point of fact, something a great deal more dangerous.”

This is what will allow surmounting the dismal odds of maintaining.  We are mad to try, but if we love health, our bodies, and freedom, we will endure the vagaries life throws in our way.

Where does that get fun?

Here’s us on the raggedy edge

Still working the details

What’s in front of us

What you plan and what happens ain’t ever been similar

I’m smelling a lot of if

Not actually Firefly, but from the Whedonverse:

Because you lack conviction
